Color Inspiration: Military Green Dresser

I've been testing out new colors, and although it can be more exhilarating to try my hand at bold and bright hues [like yesterday's bench], it's also nice to see how I fare with more subdued varieties.  Today I'm introducing into my repertoire Olive from Annie Sloan on a mid century dresser.

I like this dresser because of its clean lines, and the fact that it already has a masculine touch. I chose this military green because I knew it would bring out the beautiful original brass hardware. Then I threw a smattering of brass objects on top just to continue with the theme [I mean, who doesn't love tiny brass ducklings?! Come on now].

The bigger brother to this dresser reminded me of a suit and tie [see it here] and now this one immediately takes me to images of military jackets with brass buttons and lapels.  When you see my dresser, don't you also envision this handsome gentleman in a military coat procuring it for his equally handsome loft with exposed brick and concrete floors? Sigh...

Poor guy! He's just so cold, he can't help but brood about it with his sultry stare.  But I digress...

I think often times the hardware of a dresser is overlooked, when it really should be the focal point like with this piece. Some people like to use metal cleaners like Brasso or Bar Keeper's Friend on their hardware. But I prefer to see the distinct wear and patina on each pull.

The grayish green works beautifully with the worn brass details and although it's not in your traditional neutral color, this still works and feels very versatile. Check out this guy on Craigslist or in my shop.  I'd like to say the aforementioned male model comes with the furniture, or at the very least could help you load it into your car, but I'm still working on hiring a man for this purpose.  Stay tuned...
