Creating a Mudroom in any space: Yellow Bench

I finally finished a few new projects last week, and I thought I'd share the happiest one of the bunch.  I've been wanting to use Annie Sloan's English Yellow for a while now. It's such a fun, bright pop of color, and makes anything vibrant!

I decided this bench was a good place to start since I knew I wanted it to have a coveted spot in my entry way. I already had a great wall mounted coat rack, but I needed a spot to sit down and take off my shoes when I get home, and I knew this bench would fit snugly in this space.

The entry is [obviously] the first thing anyone sees in your home, so it's a great spot to make a good first impression of what the rest of your home will look like.  My house is a constant play between bright and neutral; between rustic and mid century modern. The gray-blue walls are an appropriate neutral backdrop for this bold yellow bench. It's not a heavy piece of furniture, so the space still feels open.

What I love about pieces like this is they can work virtually anywhere because of their small scale. Even the tiniest apartment can have a 'mudroom' spot like this.  I may end up keeping this one, since it works a little too well in my house! But just in case it looks like something that might work beautifully in your home, check it out in my shop or on Craigslist!
