I'm really torn about this pair of chairs. I picked up them up a while back since they seemed perfect for a reupholstery project I had in mind.
I was envisioning painting the wood in something light, likely in a shade of gray [Annie Sloan's Paris Gray, French Linen or Paloma]. Painted and distressed the beautiful turned legs and details of the chairs' arms and top would be a knockout.
For my house, I always have to think of pet friendly fabrics, so I would have gone with a velvet [like the original fabric] but in a a shade of navy or teal.
I'd love to do a contrasting fabric on the back, possibly something with a pattern or a different texture like linen or a nubby wool. If you're going to do custom upholstery, I think having unique touches like this is what makes it all worth it.
But alas, since I'm moving all my furniture pieces to the studio in just a few weeks, I need to use every square inch of space for pieces that I'll be working on, refinishing, painting, and selling. So even though I'd love to invest some money into reupholstering these right now, it's just not the time for me. So my loss will be someone's gain! I listed them on Craigslist just the other day, and they're also in my shop. If they don't end up being a fixture in my home, I know they'll be a beautiful pair in someone's living space!
